THE GRANNY BIKE

Rental Bicycles and Quadcycles:Rental bicycles can be constructed using The Granny Bike conversion kit to convert two standard bicycles into an affordable four-wheeled bike. A bike trailer can be towed for that extra passenger. If tandem bikes are used you have a 4 seat quadcycle. Space exists in the carrier for the extras. The umbrella will shelter you from the sun and the rain. When constructing a Granny Bike for rental purposes use only ruggedly constructed, single speed low geared coaster bikes, with balloon tires and a wheel size no greater than 26 inches to keep overall profile low. The handlebars should be conventional upright touring. Ladies style bike frames are the best choice because they make the riders mounting and dismounting easier. The bike seats should be large and comfortable. The cost of such an assembly should be no greater than $500 and less than that if pre-owned bicycles are used. Tricycles cost twice that. Fixed frame specialty quadcycles even more. The rental of Granny Bikes quadcycles should only be for use on reasonable flat terrain and groomed paths. Auto traffic should also either be prohibited or well controlled. Trailer parks and campsites and designated bike paths would be suitable sites. Note: The Granny Bike should not be subjected to quick high speed turns. Damage to steering alignment and wheels and spokes may occur. Caution should be exercised when renting to young adults and children. Customer feedback note added March 06: Two customer have suggested the Granny Bike kit is not rugged enough for rental use.
